Overview

The Everest Base Camp trek is the classic Himalayan journey. From the airstrip at Lukla you follow the Dudh Koshi into Sherpa country, acclimatise at Namche Bazaar, pass the monastery at Tengboche with Ama Dablam filling the skyline, and climb through the Khumbu to Base Camp itself. Sunrise from Kala Patthar at 5,545m puts the whole south face of Everest in front of you. Teahouse accommodation throughout, with a qualified Sherpa guide and porters carrying the heavy loads.

Fitness required

You should be comfortable walking 5–7 hours a day on consecutive days over uneven ground. No technical climbing is involved, but the altitude makes moderate terrain feel much harder. Three months of regular hill walking or cardio training is strongly advised.

What to pack

Four-season sleeping bag (-15°C), down jacket, waterproof shell, broken-in trekking boots, thermal base layers, sun hat and glacier sunglasses, headtorch, water purification, personal first-aid kit. Down jacket and sleeping bag can be hired in Kathmandu.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous trekking experience?+

No technical experience is required, but you should be a confident hill walker with good general fitness. The challenge is sustained days at altitude rather than difficult terrain.

What insurance do I need?+

Your policy must cover trekking to 6,000m and include helicopter evacuation. We ask for your policy number and emergency contact before departure.

How likely are Lukla flight delays?+

Delays of a day are common, especially in spring. We build a contingency day into every itinerary and can arrange a helicopter transfer at extra cost if the weather closes in.

What about altitude sickness?+

Our itinerary includes two acclimatisation days and follows conservative ascent rates. Guides carry a pulse oximeter and are trained to recognise AMS early.

Cancellation policy

Free cancellation up to 30 days before departure. 50% refund between 30 and 14 days. No refund within 14 days, though the deposit may be transferred to another departure once.
