Overview

Island Peak (Imja Tse) is the most popular trekking peak in Nepal and the natural next step after Base Camp. This itinerary combines the full EBC trek with a guided ascent of the 6,189m summit, including a training day on fixed ropes and crampon technique at high camp. The final headwall is steep snow and ice on fixed line, followed by a narrow summit ridge with the Lhotse face directly above you.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous climbing experience?+

Not formally - the training day covers crampons, fixed-rope ascent and abseiling. But you must be a strong trekker; summit day is long and genuinely hard.

What is the summit success rate?+

Around 85% on our departures. Weather and individual acclimatisation are the main factors, which is why we build in a contingency day.
